Tír na Hilán Self Catering Cottages are located 4km (2½ miles) from Castletownbere town, on the Beara Way Walking and Cycling Trail in County Cork Ireland

All this and more can be found in the area around Tír na Hilán Cottages, on the Beara Peninsula, by the shores of Bantry Bay. We, your hosts Sean & Ruth O'Sullivan will ensure that your stay in our cottages in this wonderful part of Ireland will be a memorable and pleasant one.

The cottages are on a hill road in a secluded location. Fully fitted with wooden and tiled flooring, and can accommodate 5 or 6 people. A cot and high chair are also available.

The heating is by open fire and back boiler. There are also electric heaters in all bedrooms and a storage heater in the living area. Some turf from our own bog will be supplied. The kitchen is equipped with electric cooker; small fridge; microwave; toaster and kettle. A washing machine, tumble drier and small freezer are in an adjacent shed.  Bathroom has bath with shower attachment and wash hand basin. There is a separate toilet with w.c. and basin

Castletownbere boasts the second largest natural harbour in Ireland and is an international fishing port. You are likely to hear Spanish and Portuguese (amongst many other languages) being spoken in the bars and shops, mingling with the soft brogue of the locals. There are numerous restaurants, cafes and pubs - fish naturally being at least one of the many dishes on offer.

The Ring of Beara is a favourite haunt of walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and people who enjoy uncommercialised, natural beauty.  There are many other wonderful places to visit on Beara.

Take in a panoramic view of Bantry Bay and descend in a dramatic series of hairpin bends on the Healy Pass.  Scattered throughout Bere Island are the remnants of the vast Victorian military fortification, which Britain built to protect its naval base in Berehaven Harbour. Visit the Martello Tower - now home to a visitor’s centre.  Allihies is now home to many of the famous artists who live on Beara and was once the site of an extensive copper mining industry. Ballydonegan Beach, just below the village, was created by crushed stones from the mines.

Two good trout fishing lakes, Glenbeg and Derryvegal are both near ARDGROOM, and beyond the village is a perfect example of a Stone Circle.  Other activities in the area include Diving, Canoeing/Kayaking, Sailing, Angling or visit the Call of the Sea Maritime Museum

For the golf enthusiast, Berehaven Golf Club - a nine hole links course is just a few miles away plus there are 18 hole courses in Kenmare and Bantry - just 30 miles away.
Berehaven Golf Club
This ever improving course provides a challange to every level of golfer and boasts spectacular scenery. It is set in most picturesque surroundings having Hungry Hill on one side and Berehaven Harbour and Bere Island on the other. The overall length of the course is 5121m with a par of 68.

Bantry Bay Golf Club
Bantry Bay features… an 18 hole Championship golf course, which is open year round. It is situated in a very scenic setting with 14 holes overlooking the bay. There are lovely sea views to the Islands and the Beara mountains.

Glengarriff Golf Club
This is truly a club with a view! Glengarriff's nine holes are in one of the loveliest settings in Ireland, with scenic views abounding - the one from the fifth tee is exceptionally beautiful.

Killarney Golf Club
Killarney holds a unique place in Irish golf and Killarney Golf and Fishing Club has been described as a golfer’s paradise’. With three courses set in some of the most stunning countryside - some would say it is the most picturesque golf in the land - it is not hard to see why. This is the first club in Ireland with 54 championship holes to test the skills of any golfer.

Kenmare Golf Club
The famous old course is a fair test of golf and is unique in that it suits all standards of golfers. Kenmare golf course boasts some of the finest scenery imaginable. The views over Kenmare bay and the surrounding mountains take one’s breath away.  The course has some great feature holes and is always in first class condition which are all the ingredients for a wonderful round of golf
